17:1 Nathan the prophet. This is the first reference to Nathan in I Chronicles. Note that this chapter is essentially identical to II Samuel 7. Evidently the Chronicler appropriated it from the earlier account for his own more exclusively Judaistic record. It is possible that both obtained it from the no-longer-extant “book of Nathan the prophet” (I Chronicles 29:29).
